LAWRENCE, Kan. --- Two UC Irvine student-athletes were able to complete their events Friday while another had her competition suspended due to weather at the NCAA West Preliminary Round in Lawrence, Kan.
Inclement weather had wiped out the majority of the competition scheduled for Thursday.
Freshman Barbara Coward is currently 21st in the discus throw with a mark of 154-9 Friday as the event was suspended until Saturday due to lightning in the area.
Sophomore Persis William-Mensah placed 32nd overall in the 100 meters with a time of 11.81 seconds and senior Kaulyn Lee-McNeill was 35th in the 400-meter hurdles in 60.23.
The women's 4x100 relay of Taisyn Crutchfield, Megan George, Michelle Norman and William-Mensah competes at 8:00 a.m. (PT) Saturday with George running in the 100-meter hurdles at 9:30 a.m.
The top 12 in each event will advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 8-11.
