SIMI VALLEY, Calif. --- Senior Jacob Schulze shot an even-par 72 to lead UC Irvine on the first day of the Big West Conference Championship at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley.
Schulze is tied for seventh following the opening round as Zach Smith of UC Santa Barbara is the individual leader after shooting 3-under 69.
UCI sophomore David Kim shot a 75 and is in 25th place, redshirt freshman Chris Parkinson is 29th after a 76, junior Bryan Shin (78) is 38th and sophomore Jonathan Young (79) is 39th.
The Anteaters are in eighth place after totaling 301 Monday. UC Santa Barbara leads the field at 287, UC Davis is second at 292 and Cal Poly third at 293.
The second round begins at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.
