IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Bridget Devaney regained the school record in the hammer throw Friday on the first day of the 22nd adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.
Devaney registered a mark of 180-8 (55.07m) to move to No. 1 in the UCI record book past Dazhana Bauer-Jackson, who had set a mark of 179-11 earlier this season. Devaney was the record-holder entering this year with a distance of 174-10 that she set last season.
Devaney finished seventh in the event Friday while Bauer-Jackson was 10th at 168-8.
Senior Rebecca Garcia won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a personal-best time of 10:59.77 to improve her No. 4 time in Anteater history. Aliya Shah finished sixth Friday with a time of 11:13.28 that moves her into the No. 7 spot on the UCI career list.
Senior Charity Lyons also recorded a PR in the long jump with a mark of 18-4 ¼ to finish seventh.
Ariel Cheng cleared a season-best height of 12-8 in the pole vault to finish fifth.
Kelly Magana placed fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 133-7 and Marisa McGinnis was sixth at 130-0.
The second and final day of the invitational is Saturday, beginning at 12:00 p.m.
