Melanie Speech finished 11th in the heptathlon at the UCR Spring Classic
RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Elizabeth Cotociu finished ninth with 4,390 points and senior Melanie Speech was 11th with 4,257 points in the heptathlon that concluded Friday at the UC Riverside Spring Classic.
Cotociu finished first Friday in the 800 meters with a time of 2:16.80, she was fourth in the long jump at 5.40m and 13th in the javelin throw with a mark of 25.73m.
Speech placed second in the javelin throw at 43.78m, 13th in the long jump with a mark of 4.93m and 16th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:47.29.
Riley Cooks of Long Beach State won the heptathlon with 5,569 points.
The UCR Spring Classic resumes Saturday with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the first event on the track at 1:00 p.m.
