PALM DESERT, Calif. --- UC Irvine posted a strong finish Sunday in final round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club in Palm Desert.
The Anteaters tied for the fourth-best score of the day in the 20-team field with a 290 to finish with a 54-hole score of 898. That moved UCI up the leaderboard by six spots as the 'Eaters tied for 12th with Southern Illinois.
Kansas won the tournament at 866, Colorado was second at 869 and Texas Tech third at 870.
Senior Jacob Schulze shot a 1-under par 71 Sunday to lead UCI with a 19th-place finish of 220 over three rounds.
Sophomore Jonathan Young carded a 73 in the final round to place 39th at 224 while junior Bryan Shin also shot 73 to finish 45th at 225.
Redshirt freshman Chris Parkinson was the third Anteater player to shoot 73 Sunday and he placed 79th at 231 while sophomore Johnny Hyun (77) finished 95th at 234.
Sean Walsh of Gonzaga, with a 70 Sunday, claimed medalist honors at 7-under 209.
UCI returns to action Feb. 29-March 1 in the Del Walker Intercollegiate at Virginia Country Club in Long Beach.
