ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- Three new UC Irvine indoor records were set Friday on the first day of action in the Don Kirby Invitational at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Sophomore Dazhana Bauer-Jackson broke her own school record in the weight throw with a mark of 54-1 ¾ to finish fourth in her flight.
Persis William-Mensah, also a sophomore, set a new UCI mark in the 200 meters with a time of 24.76 (C) to place third in her section.
William-Mensah qualified for Saturday's semifinals in the 60 meters with a prelims time of 7.57 (C) Friday. Sophomore Taisyn Crutchfield narrowly missed advancing with a time of 7.64 (C).
Other UCI times in the 60 meters were Megan George (7.85), Tyra Jones (7.98), Paige Bushnell (8.08), Charity Lyons (8.09) and Megan Benson (8.11).
In the 600 meters, senior Kaulyn Lee-McNeill won her section with a school-record time of 1:35.72 to finish sixth overall.
Crystal Lizaola was eighth in 1:36.46, Elizabeth Cotociu 10th (1:37.35) and Lauren Hall 13th (1:41.36). Those three times rank second, third and sixth, respectively, in the UCI record book.
Courtney Sharar placed 11th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:52.91 (10th in UCI history) and Pearl Law was 14th in 11:14.59.
In the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, George finished 21st overall in 8.61, Jones was 28th in 8.77, Paige Bushnell 36th (8.86) and Benson 48th (9.10).
The second and final day of action in the Don Kirby Invitational is Saturday.
