UCI Concludes ITA All-American Championships

Tournament Draws

TULSA, Okla. – The UC Irvine men's tennis team wrapped up its stay at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championships Tuesday in Tulsa, Okla.

Junior Sebastian Heim highlighted the Anteaters' run as he advanced to the second round of qualifying singles with a victory over a ranked Pac-12 opponent.

In Monday's first-round match, Heim showed his heart and focus as he defeated No. 118 Sameer Kumar of Stanford, 1-6, 7-5, 6-4. After dropping the first set, the Speyer, Germany, native was down a break at 4-5 in the second before rallying for the win. Heim was unable to get the same result this morning with a 6-1, 6-4 loss to Old Dominion's No. 110 Adam Moundir.

Over the weekend, junior Luca Marquard (Bensheim, Germany) also went 1-1 in pre-qualifying singles. Marquard suffered a first-round defeat, but bounced back with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 consolation victory over Marquette's Alvaro Verdu.

Heim and Marquard also put up a fight in the qualifying doubles draw, but ultimately fell to the 29th-ranked pair of Alex Sendegeya/Bjorn Thomson (Texas Tech), 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (8).
