UC Irvine Places Seventh at Big West Meet

 

KAHUKU, Hawai'i --- UC Irvine placed seventh in the Big West Conference Championships at Kahuku, Hawai'i, Saturday morning.

The Anteaters finished with 197 points as Cal Poly claimed the title with 27. UC Davis was second with 72 and UC Santa Barbara third with 96.

Freshman Anastasia Karnaze led UCI with a 34th-place finish of 23:27.5 over 6,000 meters at the Kahuku Golf Course, closely followed by Lisa Vasquez, who was 35th in 23:28.1. Karnaze has been the Anteaters' top finisher in four meets this season.

Brenda Dorantes placed 46th with a time of 23:58.1, Marisa Gonzalez was 47th (24:03.0), Hannah Ruby 48th (24:08.7), Hallie Pullum 55th (24:28.0) and Aliya Shah was 69th in 25:44.7.

Peyton Bilo of Cal Polly won the race with a time of 21:04.1.

The Anteaters return to competition Nov. 11 at the NCAA West Regional in Sacramento.
