SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- UC Irvine topped the NCAA Division I field in the Mustang Challenge at Santa Clarita's Central Park in Saturday morning.
The Anteaters finished with 17 points in Division I scoring and CSU Bakersfield followed with 46.
Freshman Anastasia Karnaze led UCI, placing first in the Division I field and fifth overall with a time of 17:58.5 over 5,000 meters. Danielle Shanahan, competing unattached, was first overall in 17:21.3.
Marisa Gonzalez finished 15th overall in 18:41.3, Lisa Vasquez was 20th in 18:51.6 and Aliya Shah 28th in 18:59.6.
Brenda Dorantes placed 30th in 19:00.7, Hannah Ruby 38th (19:13.9) and Hallie Pullum 41st (19:17.6) to complete UCI's top seven.
The Anteaters will be back in competition Oct. 15 in the Highlander Invitational at Riverside.
