STANFORD, Calif. --- Senior goalie Dylan Peterson registered a career-high 17 saves as eighth-ranked UC Irvine downed No. 12 Princeton, 14-6, in the Kap7 NorCal Invitational at Stanford Saturday morning.
Junior Kyle Trush tied his career high for the second straight game with four goals. Senior Larson Pfeil and junior Lovre Milos added two each as the 'Eaters improved to 6-0 on the season.
Senior Pablo Carballo scored a pair of goals for UCI, which lost to Princeton in overtime last season at the Bruno Fall Classic.
Thomas Nelson led the Tigers (5-2) with two goals.
Trush's goal with 11 seconds left in the first quarter tied the game at 3-3. Two consecutive second-quarter goals by Carballo at the 7:21 and 6:47 marks, and one from Milos at 5:12, put the 'Eaters up 6-3 before Ryan Wilson scored with 3:35 left to pull Princeton within 6-4 at halftime.
UCI's lead closed to 6-5 as the Tigers' Jamie Kuprenas scored with 6:17 left in the third quarter, but Milos (4:56) and Trush (4:13) countered to put the 'Eaters up 8-5.
Nelson's goal with 3:59 remaining in the period narrowed the gap to 8-6, but UCI answered once again on goals from Matt Skinner with 3:40 left and Pfeil at the 2:17 mark to extend the 'Eaters' lead to 10-6 entering the final quarter.
Jared Osborn, Milos, Pfeil and Trush scored goals in the fourth to seal the 14-6 victory for UCI.
"We had a solid defensive performance, and Lovre, Trush and Larson put in exceptional efforts," Anteater head coach Marc Hunt said.
"Peterson came up big for us in the cage. He did a great job sticking to his game plan.
"We have a lot of weapons and it's good to see the team work with selfless play. It's nice to exact some revenge," Hunt added.
UCI continues NorCal action Saturday afternoon, facing second-ranked USC at 3:25 p.m. at Avery Pool.
