IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine sent off its seniors in style with a 4-3 win over No. 39 Fresno State Friday afternoon at Anteater Tennis Stadium.
The 'Eaters (13-7, 5-1) cranked out a pivotal doubles point thanks to the seniors, Ali Facey and Kat Facey, taking down the Sherif Ahmed sisters, 7-5, at No. 1.
Fresno State (15-4) would roar back with three singles point in straight sets for the 3-1 lead, but Ali Facey began to turn the tide with a straight set win at No. 4 singles.
No. 3 Arisha Ladhani then responded from an opening set loss to complete a three-set, comeback win to tie the match up, 3-3.
No. 6 Mazy Watrous was called upon to deliver the clinching point, but needed to go to a third set as well after falling, 7-5, in set two. The sophomore came through claiming the highest-seeded win for the 'Eaters on the year, 4-3.
UCI finishes its home season with an 8-6 mark, and will carry its 4-0 road record into CSUN on Sun. Apr. 12 for a 1:00 p.m. match and a chance to keep its Big West title hopes alive.
