IRVINE, Calif. --- No. 59 UCI and No. 66 Denver traded jabs throughout the match, but the Pioneers landed a 1-2 punch to secure the 4-3 victory Sunday at Anteater Tennis Stadium.

Doubles was decided in the third and final set as an even duel at No. 1 doubles went to Ali Facey and Kat Facey, 8-6, to score the early lead for UC Irvine (9-6, 3-1), 1-0.

Denver (7-6) posted two quick singles points at Nos. 2 and 6 singles to snag the 2-1 lead, but sweeps from Mazy Watrous and Ali Facey flipped the lead back to the 'Eaters, 3-2.

After dropping their initial sets, Sarah Gong and Kat Facey fought through the second set leading late, but Maureen Slattery and Sonja Radosevic pulled out some furious rallies to win the sets and matches simultaneously and clinch the match, 4-3.

The loss for Kat Facey marked her first of the season putting her at 13-1 now, while Mazy Watrous gained her first complete victory over a D1 opponent.

UCI will look for quick redemption on Monday, Mar. 22, with an 11:00 a.m. match against No. 23 Dartmouth back in Anteater Tennis Stadium.
