Freshman Kelsey Kawaguchi Paces UC Irvine At The Gold Rush

Seal Beach, Calif. -- UC Irvine improved on the second round of The Gold Rush presented by Southern California Ford Dealers at the Old Ranch Country Club and is tied for eighth on the first day of the spring season.

The Anteaters shot a 321 on the first round then shaved-off 18 strokes with a score of 303 on the second round. UCI is tied for eighth with Cal State Fullerton at 624. Host Long Beach State leads the field with a score of 592 (289-303).

Freshman Kelsey Kawaguchi was the top Anteater with a score of 155 (81-74) and is tied for 28th. Sophomore Kaley In (81-75) and freshman Camille Wagg are tied for 36th with a 36-hole total of 155. Sophomore Samantha Chan is tied for 39th at 157 (80-77) and junior Kristin Henno is tied for 58th at 163 (81-82). Freshman Breanne Jones is tied for 51st place, playing as an individual with a score of 161 (84-77).

The teams will play 18 holes tomorrow beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start to conclude the tournament.
