ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The UC Irvine women's indoor track and field team opened competition Friday in the Don Kirby Elite and Open meet at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Marthie Ponty finished eighth in the mile run with a time of 5:36.51 as teammates Courtney Sharar placed ninth (5:39.91), Hannah Ruby 10th (5:40.07), Makenna McGrann 11th (5:51.14) and Pearl Law 12th (5:55.53).
Marie Brashears was 14th in the 600 meters in 1:39.46 and Aliya Shah finished 17th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:37.07.
In the 400 meters, Simone Buchanan placed 26th overall in 58.03, Kaulyn Lee-McNeill was 39th (59.40), Lily Trinh 44th (60.06), Brenna McNulty 53rd (61.30) and Paige Bushnell 54th (61.44).
Madelyn Sando cleared 5-2 ½ in the high jump to finish 35th.
Persis William-Mensah placed 55th overall in the 200 meters with a time of 25.53.
The meet concludes Saturday with competition beginning at 9:30 a.m. (MST).
