'Eaters Off to Solid Start in Cabo

 

LOS CABOS, Mexico --- UC Irvine is off to a solid start in 2015-16 as the 'Eaters are in second place after the first round of the season-opening Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate.

UCI shot 286 Sunday to sit two strokes behind Georgia State (284) in the 10-team tournament.  Georgia Southern is in third place at 289.

Senior Jacob Schulze and sophomore Johnny Hyun led the 'Eaters with opening rounds of 2-under par 70 to tie for fifth place on the Cabo del Sol Ocean Course.

Sophomore David Kim shot 1-under 71 and is in 10th, junior Bryan Shin shot 75 and is in 29th place while sophomore Jonathan Young is 43rd after a first-round 79.

Nathan Mallonee of Georgia State is the individual leader after shooting a 5-under 67.

Monday's play will be on the Cabo del Sol Desert Course.  UCI is scheduled to begin at 9:35 a.m.

The final 18 holes are set to be played on Tuesday on the Ocean Course.
