David Kim is Medalist at Pacific Invitational

 

STOCKTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine sophomore David Kim captured medalist honors of the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational that concluded Saturday at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.

Kim shot a 2-under 69 in the final round to finish with a 4-under total of 209 over 54 holes.  Taylor Knoll of Sacramento State was second at 3-under 210.

Kim birdied the 16th and 18th holes to win his first collegiate title and become UCI's first medalist since Pete Fernandez won the Del Walker Intercollegiate last March.

Coach Paul Smolinski's Anteaters placed third in the 16-team field with a three-round total of 874.  Sacramento State won the title at 859 and Long Beach State was second at 861.

UCI's team score of 1-under 283 in the last round was the best score of the day.

Senior Jacob Schulze shot a 72 Saturday to finish 23rd at 221, freshman Jefferson Kao placed 32nd at 223 after a 71, sophomore Jonathan Young carded a 74 to place 40th at 225 and freshman Ramiz Jamal (71) finished 48th at 226.

UCI returns to action Jan. 25-26 in The Winter Intercollegiate at Oak Valley Golf Club in Beaumont.
