MALIBU, Calif. --- Matt Skinner, Jared Osborn and Antoine Lena scored two goals each, but UC Irvine was downed by Pacific, 14-9, in the Kap7 SoCal Invitational at Malibu Sunday morning.

Skinner's first goal with 2:18 left in the opening quarter tied the game at 2-2, but  the Tigers scored the next three goals to go up 5-2 in the second quarter before Skinner converted with 5:28 remaining to pull UCI within 5-3.

Pacific went up 8-3 prior to Pablo Carballo's goal with four seconds left in the first half drew the 'Eaters within 8-4 at the break.

After the Tigers went up 9-4 early in the third period, UCI's Osborn scored with 2:50 left in the quarter.

Pacific took a 10-5 lead 24 seconds later before Lena scored back-to-back goals at 1:16 and 30 seconds to close the gap to 10-7 entering the final period.

Osborn's score with 7:14 left in the fourth reduced the deficit to 10-8, but Pacific then reeled off four consecutive goals to seal the win.

"Pacific jumped on us early and we worked hard to close within two," Anteater head coach Marc Hunt said.  "Antoine and Osborn had some big goals.  A late surge on Pacific's part kept us out of reach."

UCI (10-4) meets Long Beach State in the seventh-place game at 1:20 p.m. Sunday.
