LOS ANGELES, Calif. --- No. 74 UC Irvine dropped its first match of the 2015 season in 4-0 fashion to No. 64 Kansas State Saturday morning to start the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on the campus of UCLA.
The doubles point was up for grabs after the 'Eaters (1-1) took No. 3 doubles and Kansas State (2-0) evened the score at No. 2. The Wildcats finished the job in a rigorous rally at No. 1 by Sara Castellano and Palma Juhasz as they stopped Ali Facey and Kat Facey, 7-6, to take the 1-0 lead.
Singles started out even with each squad taking three of the opening sets. No. 2 Arisha Ladhani, No. 3 Kat Facey, and No. 5 Ali Facey all won their initial sets, however, the Wildcats swiped the next three points to halt the match in its tracks at 4-0.
UC Irvine awaits its next competitor in the loser of the UCLA/Marshall match this afternoon. The match will take place Sunday, Feb. 25 at 10:00 a.m.
