IRVINE, Calif. --- Freshman Sebastian Heim put in a full first week of his collegiate career knocking down four wins in four matches to earn a share of Big West Athlete of the Week honors.
Heim helped the Anteaters to a 2-2 start with a pair of wins over Arizona and close losses to ranked opponents in New Mexico and Texas Tech. All Heim did was sweep his four matches with three coming as the No. 3 and a fourth moving his way up to No. 2.
Heim, a native of Speyer, Germany, continued on his solid start after a 3-1 fall season. Joining Heim was UC Davis sophomore James Wade who had a pair of impressive singles wins to share the honor with Heim.
UC Irvine captured a pair of Big West Athlete of the Week awards in 2014 in consecutive weeks by way of Tyler Pham and Ryan Cheung. Heim scored his first honor this week in his first collegiate action.
The Anteaters have continued one with three matches against ranked opponents falling in each of them. Their next tilt comes at No. 1 USC on Sat. Feb. 7.
