IRVINE, Calif. --- Kaycee Holcomb led UC Irvine in the season-opening adidas/UCI Invitational Saturday morning at the Anteater Recreation Center Fields.
She placed 12th of 157 runners with a time of 19:02.0 over 5,000 meters. Alice Yang finished 19th in 19:14.7 and Chelsea Schneider was 24th in 19:30.5.
UCI's Lauren Hall placed 29th in 19:41.2, Marthie Ponty was 33rd (19:48.6), Pearl Law 34th (19:51.6), Marisa Gonzalez 42nd (20:03.0), Hannah Ruby 56th (20:30.2), Aliya Shah 58th (20:32.8), Courtney Sharar 77th (21:08.3) and Gabbi White 124th (22:43.1).
Arkansas, ranked No. 7 in the nation, had the top nine finishers and won the invitational with a perfect score of 15 points. The Razorbacks' Dominique Scott was the individual champion with a time of 17:12.5 over the 5,000-meter course.
The Masters finished second with 98 points and UCI also scored 98 points, but finished third in a new tiebreaker system in the 17-team meet.
Saturday's meet was the first for Jeff Perkins as head coach of the Anteaters' cross country program.
UCI is back in action at the Mustang Invitational in Santa Clarita Sept. 20.
