Alice Yang Leads UC Irvine at Mustang Challenge

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. --- Alice Yang was UC Irvine's top runner Saturday in the Mustang Challenge at Central Park in Santa Clarita.

She finished 23rd in the field of 165 runners with a time of 19:06.8 over the 5,000-meter course.

UCI's Marthie Ponty placed 50th (19:37.5), Lauren Hall was 52nd (19:40.1), Courtney Sharar 56th (19:44.5), Aliya Shah 58th (19:45.5), Pearl Law 69th (20:09.1), Marisa Gonzalez 82nd (20:46.6) and Gabbi White 146th (23:06.1).

Karis Frankian from The Master's College, the host school, was the individual champion in 17:53.3.

UCI finished ninth in the team competition with 239 points.  Sacramento State won the 17-team meet with 49 points, Cal State San Marcos was second with 55 and The Master's third with 111.

The Anteaters compete in the 41st Stanford Invitational Saturday (Sept. 27) with the 6,000-meter race scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. on the Stanford Golf Course.
