Kap7 NorCal Classic Tournament Central
STOCKTON, Calif. --- UC Irvine fell behind early and couldn't catch up as UC San Diego held off the Anteaters, 10-9, in the Kap7 NorCal Classic at Stockton Saturday morning.
The eighth-ranked Tritons built leads of 4-2 after one quarter and 8-4 at halftime.
Tenth-ranked UCI pulled to within 9-7 as Kyle Trush scored two goals and Jared Osborn one in the third quarter.
Jacob Mourer scored with 5:11 left in the fourth period to draw the 'Eaters within 9-8, but UCSD's Luca De Vivo countered at the 3:12 mark for a two-goal cushion. Larson Pfeil's goal with 2:55 remaining closed the gap to 10-9 and neither team scored again.
Trush, Mourer and Matt Skinner scored two goals apiece for UCI, which fell to 7-2 on the season.
The 'Eaters face Redlands at 1:20 p.m. today in a consolation quarterfinal game at San Joaquin Delta College.
