IRVINE, Calif. --- First baseman Connor Spencer was selected in the eighth round by the New York Yankees on the second day of the 2014 Major League Draft while Chris Rabago was the 13th-round pick by the Colorado Rockies on the final day.
Spencer, an All-Big West first-team choice has been the team's top hitter. Batting a team-high .366, Spencer also leads UCI in hits (86), RBI (44) and on-base percentage (.455). He is second among the Anteater starts with 15 doubles, five triples and 36 runs scored.
A two-time Big West Player of the Week, Spencer was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Corvallis Regional after batting .400 (6 for 15) with five RBI and five runs scored.
Rabago was named the All-Tournament shortstop of the Corvallis Regional. He drove in three runs and scored four while delivering with four sacrifice hits and is now third in the UCI single-season records with 22. On the season, Rabago has 56 hits with nine doubles, a pair of triples and 19 runs batted in.
Sam Moore, the country's leader in saves with 23, was taken in the 40th round by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moore was recently named an NCBWA first-team All-American and is a finalist for the Gregg Olson "Breakout Player of the Year" Award.
