Pete Fernandez Opens with 73 at NCAA Regional

 

EUGENE, Ore. --- UC Irvine junior Pete Fernandez opened with a 3-over par 73 in the first round of the NCAA Regional at the Eugene (Ore.) Country Club Thursday.

Fernandez, competing as an individual, is in an 11-way tie for 30th place. 

Stanford's Patrick Rodgers is the individual leader after shooting a 4-under 66 in the first round.  Chattanooga's Chris Robb and Kyle Westmoreland from Air Force are tied for second at 67.

Fernandez begins his second round Friday off the 10th tee at 10:12 a.m.  He is paired with Northern Colorado's Ben Krueger and Sacramento State's Owen Taylor.  The final round is scheduled for Saturday.

Fernandez is one of 10 individuals, along with 13 teams, competing in the Eugene Regional.

The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams from the regional following the conclusion of 54 holes will advance to the finals at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan., May 23-28.
