SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- UC Irvine finished sixth in the OGIO-UCSB Intercollegiate that concluded Tuesday at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara.
UCI tied for the third-best team score of the final round at 292 and had a 54-hole total of 883. Long Beach State won the 10-team tournament with a score of 869, UC Santa Barbara was second at 871 and Sacramento State third at 872.
Anteater junior Pete Fernandez shot a 2-under 70 in Tuesday's round and placed seventh at 217 for his sixth top-10 finish of the season.
Senior Travis Russell shot an even-par 72 in the final round and was 17th at 220. Junior Bhuvan Potluri (75) finished 31st at 224 and freshman Ryan O'Connor (75) was 50th at 233. Senior Ryan Knapp withdrew from the last round due to illness and freshman Bryan Shin, competing as an individual, shot 70 Tuesday to finish 26th at 222.
Sacramento State's Owen Taylor earned medalist honors with a 4-under total of 212, including a 70 on Tuesday.
UCI competes in the Big West Conference Championship April 27-29 at the Country Club at Soboba Springs in San Jacinto.
