UC Irvine Starts Big West Championship In Third Place

San Luis Obispo, Calif. -- Freshman Kaley In and senior Taryn Yee lead UC Irvine after the first day of the Big West Championships held at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.

In and Yee both shot a one-over par 74 on the first day of the tournament and are tied for fifth place.

Senior Sara Banke is tied for 16th (77), while senior Ronnie Valerio is tied for 24th (80) and freshman Samantha Chan is tied for 26th (81).

The Anteaters are currently in third place with a score of 305. UC Davis leads the field at 294. Long Beach State is in second one shot in front of UCI with a 304.

The tournament continues with 18 holes on Monday and on Tuesday.
