RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- UC Irvine senior Ericka Nowell won the 400-meter hurdles in the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational at the UCR Track & Field Stadium Saturday.

Nowell earned first place in the event with a time of 60.60.

Freshman Ariel Cheng continued her impressive year, finishing second in the pole vault with a mark of 12-3 ½.

Itos Aikhionbare finished second in the shot put at 51-8 ¼ as she improved on her No. 2 mark in UCI history and moved closer to the school record of 51-9 ¾ set by Alisha Misiaita five years ago.

Aikhionbare placed third in the discus throw Saturday with a mark of 162-0.

UCI finished eighth in the team competition with 40 points as Cal State Northridge won the meet with 154.50 points.

The Anteaters travel to La Jolla for the Cal/Nevada Championships Friday and Saturday.
