Final Results

RIVERSIDE, Calif. --- UC Irvine's Melanie Speech recorded a personal-best mark in the heptathlon that concluded Friday at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Invitational.

Speech finished with a total of 4,602 points following Friday's final three events at the UCR Track & Field Stadium to place seventh of the 14 competitors.

The Anteater sophomore, competing in just her second collegiate heptathlon, had Friday marks of 18-0 ¼ in the long jump and 130-3 in the javelin throw, and a time of 2:39.39 in the 800 meters.

Annett Fleming, an unattached athlete, won the heptathlon with 5,643 points.

The hammer throw, the first field event of the UCR Spring Classic, was also contested Friday and UCI sophomore Bridget Devaney placed ninth with a mark of 153-4.

The final day of the meet is Saturday with field events beginning at 10:00 a.m. and the first event on the track at 12:55 p.m.
