Box Score Irvine, Calif. – Junior Methlyn Onogomuho posted career-highs and was big in the extra period to lift UC Irvine to a 79-73 overtime victory against UC Davis Saturday at the Bren Center.
Onogomuho scored five of UCI's 11 points in overtime to secure the victory. For the game, the forward recorded a career-best 20 points and career-high 13 rebounds, shooting 6-10 from the floor and 8-9 from the line.
UCI's Camille Buckley led all players with 23 points to go with eight rebounds and two steals. Senior Lauren Spinazze tied her career-high with 12 points and guard Jennifer Tsurumoto added 10 points, four assists and three steals. Madison McKenney had seven points and Jasmine Bernard totaled six points.
UC Davis was led by Sydnee Fipps with 21 points, Idit Oryon with 13 points and Kelsey Harris with 12 points. Molly Greubel had a game-high 14 assists, which was a UC Davis single-game record.
The Anteaters have won two straight and improve to 12-11 overall, 5-4 in the Big West and 7-1 at home this season. The Aggies fall to 10-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
UC Davis held a 42-40 lead at the half and jumped out to a 60-50 advantage with 10:17 on a three-pointer by Idit Oryon. UCI would score 14 straight to move ahead 64-60 with 4:53 left. A Sydnee Fipps bucket at 1:32 gave the Aggies the lead, 68-66, before two free throws by Camille Buckley tied it at 68-68 with 1:11 to go. Neither team was able to score in regulation sending the game in to overtime.
Buckley would start the scoring with a free throw in the extra period before a Molly Greubel layup at 2:44 put UC Davis in front 70-69. The Anteaters would score the next seven points to open a 76-70 lead with 1:14 remaining. Kelsey Harris would stop the Anteater streak with a three-pointer (76-73) at 1:05 before Onogomuho recorded a layup and a free throw with 15 seconds remaining to end the scoring.
UCI will travel to UC Riverside Saturday (Feb. 15) for a 5:00 p.m. game.
