MALIBU, Calif. --- The Anteaters had a tough task going to 28th-ranked Pepperdine Wednesday and fell just short in a 6-1 loss.
The Waves took the early doubles point with the help of an 8-2 win by seventh-ranked Alex Sarkissian and Francis Alcantara. Justin Agbayani and Caryl Hernandez scored an 8-5 win at No. 3 to avoid the sweep.
Rafael Davidian scored the lone singles point in a big-time upset sweep of No. 103 David Sofaer at No. 4 singles. Jonathan Poon was the only other 'Eater to take his set to a third set nearly scoring the win falling 10-7 in the final-set tiebreaker.
UCI (2-9, 0-1) returns next week with a 1:00 p.m. match at Anteater Tennis Stadium Thurs. Mar. 6 against Boston College.
