Anteaters In Eighth At UC Irvine Invitational Presented By Kia

Santa Ana, Calif. -- UC Irvine sits in eighth place after the first day of the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia at the Santa Ana Country Club.

The Anteaters shot rounds of 306 and 310 and are in eighth place with a score of 616 on Monday. Stanford posted consecutive rounds of 289 and leads the 13-team field with a two-over par 578. The Cardinal enter the final round Tuesday with a 10-stroke lead over second place Texas A&M (588).

Pepperdine is third (592), while Gonzaga is fourth (598) and Long Beach State is fifth (604). UC Davis is sixth (607), Portalnd State seventh (614), Hawaii (617) in ninth, San Francisco (618) in 10th, Nevada (620) in 11th , Idaho in 12th (625) and UC Riverside is 13th (627).

Stanford has three players in the top 10 and and are led by Mariah Stackhouse who tops the leaderboard after posting a five-under par 139 (70-69). UC Riverside's Savannah Vilaubi is second at 142 (71-71) and Pepperdine's Grace Na (74-69) and Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova (73-70) are tied for third with a 36-hole total of 143.

Senior Ronnie Valerio carded a 76 in both rounds today to pace UC Irvine with a score of 152 which is tied for 20th. Senior Taryn Yee is tied for 24th at 153 (74-79), while junior Sara Banke is tied for 34th with a total of 155 (77-78). Freshmen Kaley in is tied for 57th (160) and Samantha Chan is 61st (161).

The tournament concludes with the final 18 holes tomorrow (Feb. 25) beginning at 7:45 a.m.

The individual winner of the tournament will recieve a sponsor exemption to the 2014 Kia Classic Mar. 27-30 at the Aviara Golf Club.
