Box Score Honolulu, Hawaii – Hawaii shot over 50 percent from the field and beat UC Irvine 85-59 at the Stan Sheriff Center Saturday.
UCI (9-10, 2-3) were led by forward Camille Buckley with a game-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Guard Jennifer Tsurumoto followed with 16 points and guard Kelly Meggs had seven points. UCI made a season-low two three-pointers (2-11) and shot 33.3% (19-57) from the floor for the game.
Hawaii was hot from the floor, shooting 52.2% (36-69) for the game and had five players in double-digit scoring. Shawna-Lei Kuehu topped the 'Bows with 18 points. Kamilah Jackson, Destiny King and Ashleigh Karaitiana each added 12 points, while Pua Kailiawa had 11 points. King led the team in rebounds with eight.
Hawaii would score seven straight points to open a 15-6 lead at 13:27. The Anteaters would use a 14-4 run which was capped by a pair of Jennifer Tsurumoto free throws to close within 26-25 at 7:39. UCI would not score another basket and managed just four free throws for the rest of the half as Hawaii would take the 48-29 lead. at halftime.
UCI would get no closer than 15 in the second half.
The Anteaters return home to host UC Santa Barbara Thursday (Jan. 30) at 7:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
