VOLOS, Greece --- The U.S. Junior National water polo team scored the Gold medal after a 9-7 victory over Spain at the FINA Women's Junior World Championship over the weekend.
The team is coached by UCI women's water polo coach Dan Klatt and went 6-0 over the tournament. Opening-round wins over Kazakhstan (14-4), Italy (8-5), and New Zealand (12-5) set up the U.S. as the No. 1 seed in the knockout round.
Wins over Hungary (12-10) and Greece (10-3) put the U.S. in the title match against Spain.
UCI goalkeeper Jillian Yocum saw time throughout the tournament saving six shots en route to the Gold medal.
