UCI Finishes 7th at Big West Championship

 

SAN JACINTO, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team finished seventh in the Big West Conference Championship that concluded Tuesday at the Country Club at Soboba Springs.

UCI completed 54 holes with a score of 908.  Pacific and Cal State Fullerton tied for the team title at 887, and the Tigers won a one-hole playoff to earn the league's automatic berth into the NCAA Regionals.  UC Davis placed third at 890.

Junior Travis Russell led the Anteaters with a 17th-place finish with a three-round total of 225 after he shot a final round of 75 Tuesday.  Sophomore Pete Fernandez placed 20th at 226 following a 78 in the final round.

Junior Allan Jun (78) and senior Michael Yang (84) tied for 32nd place at 231, while freshman Jacob Schulze (79) was 42nd at 237.

Pacific's Eric Sugimoto won medalist honors in a two-hole playoff after he, Cal State Fullerton's Corey Gard and UC Santa Barbara's Brett Silvernail had 54-hole scores of 217.
