UC Irvine in 7th at Big West Championship

 

SAN JACINTO, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team is in seventh place following Monday's second round of the Big West Conference Championship at the Country Club at Soboba Springs.

The Anteaters had one of the best team scores of the day at 5-over 293 and have a two-round total of 598.  Pacific leads at 587, Cal State Fullerton is second at 591 and UC Davis third at 592.

UCI senior Michael Yang shot 75 Monday and is in ninth place at 147.  Sophomore Pete Fernandez is 13th at 148 after a 73 and junior Travis Russell, who had the Anteaters' best round with a 1-under 71, is in 18th place at 150.

Junior Allan Jun (74) is 32nd at 153 and freshman Jacob Schulze (77) is 41st at 158.

Corey Gard of Fullerton is the individual leader at 4-under 140 after shooting a 71 Monday and he is three shots ahead of second-place Eric Sugimoto (143) from Pacific.

The final round is scheduled for Tuesday with UCI slated to begin teeing off at 7:55 a.m.
