IRVINE, Calif. --- UC Irvine junior Lacey Surak won the javelin throw Saturday on the first day of the 19th annual adidas/Steve Scott Invitational at Anteater Stadium.
Surak won the event with a mark of 133-6 and senior Chelsea Pham placed fifth at 119-2.
Senior Nicole Mendoza finished second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:29.52 for the No. 7 time in UCI history.
Freshman Bridget Devaney was fifth in the hammer throw at 156-9 for the fourth-best mark in the Anteater record book. Sophomore Itos Aikhionbare finished seventh at 154-2.
Sophomore Kate Johnson placed eighth in the pole vault at 10-6 to also record a top-10 finish for the Anteaters.
Track and field events begin at 12:00 p.m. Sunday.
