No. 6 'Eaters Halt No. 10 LBSU, 4-3, Earn Share of Big West Title

LONG BEACH, Calif. --- UCI scored a big point in the Black and Blue rivalry series with a 4-3 win Thursday night against Long Beach State.

UCI (18-8, 6-1) was helped out by a three-goal first period and carried that 3-1 lead through halftime.

Hannah Croghan had one of the goals and scored a crucial second goal in the third period.

LBSU (23-6, 4-3) closed the gap to one midway through the fourth quarter on a power play. UCI would stay strong in the defensive struggle for the 4-3 victory to lock up a share of the Big West regular season title and the No. 2 seed in the Big West Tournament.

The LBSU power play goals was the only goal scored among the 11 total power plays in the match. The 'Eaters outshot the 49ers, 19-12, while Jillian Yocum knocked down six shots.

UCI comes back to play LMU Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Anteater Aquatics Complex for senior night.
