No. 6 Anteaters Solid in 11-5 Victory

IRVINE, Calif. --- Sixth-ranked UCI broke away in the second period scoring four times en route to an 11-5 victory over No. 13 UCSB Saturday afternoon at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The 'Eaters jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before Bryn Hudson of UCSB (19-11, 2-3) reeled them back in with a pair of goals and end the period in a 2-2 stalemate.

UCI (17-8, 5-1) would open it up in the second period with a 4-0 advantage to go up 6-2 at the half.

The Anteaters extended the lead with five second-half goals. Kelsey Klatt provided two of those which were Nos. 100 and 101 on her UC Irvine career.

Michaela Pierandozzi and Ambyr Stewart joined Klatt with two-goal days of their own. Pierandozzi also earned four exclusions on the afternoon.

Hillary Estrada continued her versatile play with a goal, two assists, and two steals. Hannah Croghan and McKenna Mitchell claimed all-around performances as well. Croghan had a goal, two assists, a steal, and a field block, while Mitchell notched a goal and assist, and earned two exclusions.

Jillian Yocum exited midway through the fourth period with nine saves and allowed just three goals.

UCI has one Big West match remaining as it will travel to Long Beach State for a 7:00 p.m. game on Thurs. Apr. 18th.
