UC Irvine Places 3rd in Anteater Invitational

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. --- UC Irvine placed third in the 33rd Anteater Invitational that concluded Tuesday at El Niguel Country Club.

UCI finished with a 54-hole total of 895, just four shots behind first-place Long Beach State (891).  Cal State Fullerton was second at 894 in the 11-team tournament.

Connor Campbell of Loyola Marymount was medalist with an even-par total of 216 after shooting a 1-under 71 in the final round.

Junior Travis Russell led the 'Eaters with a fifth-place finish of 220 after shooting a 76 Tuesday.  Sophomore Pete Fernandez (71) and senior Michael Yang (74) tied for 10th place at 223.

This was Fernandez's fourth top-10 showing this season, Russell's third and Yang's second.

Freshman Jacob Schulze shot a 77 in the final round and finished 24th at 229 while junior Allan Jun shot 78 and placed 34th at 233.

Competing individually, sophomore Bhuvan Potluri finished 51st at 238 after a final-round 81, senior Mickey Chan (84) was 54th at 240 and junior Zack Duan (83) placed 56th at 241.

This was UCI's fifth top-five finish in nine tournaments this season.  The 'Eaters return to action in the Western Intercollegiate Apr. 13-14 at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz.
