Pacific Has Big Second Half To Beat UC Irvine, 65-53

Irvine, Calif. – Pacific out-scored UC Irvine 35-17 in the second half on the way to a 65-53 victory at the Bren Events Center Saturday.

A basket by Camille Buckley gave UCI the 40-32 lead with 18:20 remaining in the game before Pacific out-scored the Anteaters, 13-1 to jump ahead 45-41 on an Erica McKenzie three-pointer at 13:42. The Tigers would go on a 13-2 spurt capped by a Gena Johnson layup at 2:33 to open a 58-45 advantage. The Anteaters went scoreless for six minutes and 10 seconds until Anete Klintsone hit a three-pointer at 2:16. Kendall Rodriquez would hit four consecutive free throws in the last minute to put Pacific up 65-51 before Buckley ended the game with a basket for the 65-53 final score.

Camille Buckley recorded her12th double-double with a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds. Buckley went 8-13 from the field and 7-10 in the free throw line. Senior guard Anete Klintsone totaled a season-high 10 points and three assists, while senior forward Pernilla Hanson added seven points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Pacific had a trio of players record double-digit scoring led by Gena Johnson with 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the floor. Kendall Kenyon had 12 points and eight rebounds followed by Kendall Rodriquez 10 points.

UC Irvine opened the game on an 8-2 run, but Pacific quickly answered scoring the next five points to close within 8-7 at 14:45. The score would be tied for the sixth time on an Erica McKenzie three-pointer at 2:37. Pacific's Ashley Wakefield would score the next basket and UCI would close out the half scoring the final eight points to take a 36-30 lead in to the break.

The Anteaters fall to 9-19 overall and 5-11in the Big West, while league-leading Pacific improves to 23-6 and 13-4 in the Big West.

UCI will end the regular season traveling to Cal Poly Thursday (Feb. 7) and UC Santa Barbara Saturday (Feb. 9).
