Pair Of Top Five Finishes Help UC Irvine To Second Place At The UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia

Santa Ana, Calif. – Top five finishes by Michelle Park and Ronnie Valerio helped UC Irvine to a second place finish at the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia at the Santa Ana Country Club Tuesday.

The Anteaters second place finish is the team's highest of the year after placing third at The Gold Rush Feb. 11-12.

UCI shot its lowest round of the tournament Tuesday, posting a 298 and finished with a 54-hole total of 907 (308-301-298) for second place. Gonzaga won the team title with a score of 885 (295-298-292). Long Beach State was third (914), Portland State fourth (922) and UC Riverside was fifth (926). Santa Clara came in sixth (929) followed by Sacramento State in seventh (941), BYU in eighth (945), Idaho ninth (947), North Dakota State 10th (957), Montana in 11th (961) and Northern Colorado was 12th (964).

Gonzaga's Alice Kim earned medalist honors after carding a 215 (67-72-76) and will receive a sponsor exemption to the 2013 Kia Classic held Mar. 18-24 at Aviara Golf Club.

UCI's Michelle Park and Ronnie Valerio recorded top five finishes to lead the Anteaters. Park finished fourth with a two-day total of 221 (77-71-73), her second top five performance of the year. Valerio, who has placed in the top 10 in each of the last two tournament, ended in fifth place with a score of 223 (72-75-76). Starting on the sixth hole, freshman Luciane Lee birdied five of the next seven holes to help record a 71 final round. She ended the tournament tied for 20th with a three-round total of 231 (80-80-71). Sophomore Taryn Yee was 24th at 233 (80-75-78) and junior Sara Banke was tied for 37th with a score of 238 (79-80-79). Brenna Carlsoon finished tied for 30th (236-76-83-77) playing as an individual.

The Anteaters will travel to the Juli Inkster Invitational Mar. 4-5 at the Almaden Country Club.
