UC Irvine Beats Concordia In Season Tune-Up

IRVINE, Calif. -- UC Irvine defeated Concordia, 81-70 in an exhibition game at the Bren Center Thursday.

Senior guard Jennifer Tsurumoto led all players with 17 points, going 7-8 from the free throw line. Senior forward Camille Buckley had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore forward Mokun Fajemisin added nine points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Madison McKenney went 4-8 from the floor to collect eight points. All 15 Anteaters saw action with all but two players scoring at least one point.

Concordia was led by Ashley Engeln who went 4-6 from three-point territory and had 13 points. Katie Ogdon recorded 10 points, while Ashley Ellis and Nikki Kraus each added nine points.

Concordia started the game with a 7-2 lead, but UCI went on a 20-4 run which included three three-pointers to give the Anteaters the largest lead of the half 22-11 at 13:34. Concordia would respond with a 12-3 spurt of their own to narrow the lead to 25-23 on a three-pointer by Ashley Engeln at 10:10. UCI would hold a 37-32 lead with 6:34 before Concordia would close out the half out-scoring the Anteaters 14-6 to hold the 46-43 advantage at the intermission.

After Concordia scored the first two points of the second half, UCI scored the next 12 to take the 55-48 lead at 13:18. The Anteaters would end the game on an 18-6 run to win 81-70.

UCI will open the regular season Sunday (Nov. 10) hosting South Dakota at 2:00 p.m. in the Bren Center.
