'Eaters Stamp Out Season with 1-0 Shutout

Box Score

IRVINE, Calif. --- UCI celebrated its seniors Sunday afternoon and then the seniors gave them reason to as Mady Solow's corner kick found Natalia Ledezma for the match's only score in the 1-0 shutout win.

UC Irvine (11-6-0, 6-2-0) was blitzed from the onset allowing the first five shots of the match. Nikki McCants of CSUF had the best opportunity running under a lead pass for a 1v1 chance, but a bounding ball sliced off the side of her foot wide right to keep the match scoreless.

The 'Eaters answered on their first shot. Mady Solow snapped a corner kick in and found Natalia Ledezma's head in the box to make it a 1-0 game in the 37th minute.

The 'Eaters kept the lead through the half and continued their offensive attack through the second half firing eight shots, four on goal, while holding the Titans to a single shot.

Corey Tobin stopped a pair of shots in recording the shutout. Ledezma continued to climb up the record books with 21 career goals, eighth-most in program history, 57 points putting her alone in sixth, and her eighth game-winner of her career joining three other 'Eaters for third-most. Solow added her second assist of the season.

The win gives UCI 11 on the season and cements their spot in the Big West Tournament as the No. 2 seed.

CSUF earned a spot as well with an 8-6-5 record, 3-3-2 in the Big West, and will be the No. 4 seed.

The 'Eaters will play in the semifinals on Thursday night at Cal State Fullerton. UCI will most likely play at 5:00 p.m. against their opponent, UC Riverside.
