Madison McKenney's Career-High Not Enough As Idaho Tops UC Irvine, 68-63

Moscow, Idaho – Junior Madison McKenney poured in a career-high 22 points, but it was not enough as Idaho defeated UC Irvine, 68-63 at Memorial Gym Saturday.

McKenney led all players, going 7-10 from the field including 5-5 from three-point range to post her career-best 22 points. Senior forward Camille Buckley recorded 18 points and 13 rebounds, while guard Jennifer Tsurumoto had eight points, forward Jasmine Bernard totaled six points and forward Lauren Spinazze added five points. Jazmyne White and Vanessa Aguilar each had two points.

Idaho was led by Stacy Barr with 21 points, hitting 9-15 from the free throw line. She also added a game-high 16 rebounds. Addie Schivo and Christina Salvatore each had 14 points and Alyssa Charleston recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds in the win.

UCI led 31-30 at the half, but a layup by Alyssa Charleston started the second half to put the Vandals on top 32-31. Idaho's Stacey Barr would score five straight to give the Vandals the 39-35 advantage with 16 minutes to play. Idaho would go on another 6-0 run to push the lead to 56-48 at 7:21. A basket by Camille Buckley narrowed the margin to 56-52, but Christina Salvatore knocked down a three-pointer to give Idaho the 59-52 lead at 5:16. Madison McKenney was fouled while shooting a three-pointer and hit three free throws to make it 59-55 at 4:58. Idaho would not score a basket in the final four minutes, but would record five free throws to extend the lead to 67-57 with 38.6 remaining. The Anteaters scored three straight baskets, the last on a Jennifer Tsurumoto basket with 6.9 left. (67-63), but a Vandal free throw would end the game, 68-63.  

The Anteaters go to 3-2 overall, while Idaho is 3-1.

UCI will travel to the Loyola Marymount Thanksgiving Tournament Friday and Saturday, playing the host Lions Friday (Nov. 29) at 3:00 p.m.
