UC IRVINE FACES WASHINGTON FOR JUST 2ND TIME

● Fourth-year head coach Russell Turner's UC Irvine squad faces Washington Thursday night as part of the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project Seattle Regional.

● This is the just the second meeting in the series between UCI and Washington.  The Anteaters defeated the Huskies, 56-55, in Seattle Dec. 28, 2000.  Sean Jackson, a former Cal player, hit a 3-point shot with 1:02 remaining and the Anteaters hung on for the win.  Malachi Edmond led UCI with 14 points and Ben Jones added 10.

● UCI fell to 0-2 after an 84-79 loss at Pacific Tuesday.  The Anteaters had early leads of 9-0 and 18-6 before the Tigers took a 43-39 halftime lead.  UCI tied the game at 73-all before Pacific scored the next six points and secured the win.

● Sophomore guard Alex Young led UCI with 17 points and four assists against the Tigers while senior guard Chris McNealy added 15 points.

● UCI lost its season opener at home to Fresno State, 98-97, in overtime last Friday night.  Young hit a step-back three with 2.1 seconds left to give the 'Eaters a 97-95 lead before Fresno State's Allen Huddleston banked in a desperation three from 42 feet as time expired.

● After Thursday night's game, UCI hosts Pacifica Sunday night at 7:00. 

●  The 2K Sports Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project Irvine Subregional is Nov. 22-24 at the Bren Events Center.  Joining the host 'Eaters in the field are Boston University, Eastern Washington and LIU Brooklyn.


ABOUT WASHINGTON

● Lorenzo Romar is in his 12th season as the Huskies' head coach.  He led Washington to an 18-16 overall record last season, 9-9 in the Pac-12, and the first round of the NIT.

● Washington won its season opener, 88-78, over Seattle University Sunday night.  Senior guard C.J. Wilcox scored 22 points, sophomore Andrew Andrews 21 and freshman guard Darin Johnson 16.
