Las Vegas, Nevada – In the final tournament of the fall schedule, Ronnie Valerio and Kaley In posted top 10 finishes to lead UC Irvine to sixth place at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown at the Stallion Mountain Golf Club.
The Anteaters shot a two-day total of 589 (296-293) to finish in sixth place in the event that was shortened to 36 holes. San Diego State won the team title (579) behind medalist Sirene Blair (71-67-138). UCI finished ahead of 37th-ranked Wisconsin who was seventh and No. 34 Denver who ended in 10th place.
Valerio, a senior, and In, a freshman, tied for eighth after carding two rounds of even-par 72 for scores of 144. The duo's eighth place finish was Valerio's best performance of the season and In's best career showing. In recorded nine birdies which was second most in the tournament field.
Sophomore Luciane Lee finished in a tie for 35th place with a score of 149 (76-73). She was one-under in Par 4 scoring which was second best among all players. Junior Michelle Yang was tied for 51st with a total of 152 (76-76) and senior Sara Banke was 74th with a score of 155 (76-79).
The Anteaters will return to action Feb. 15-16, 2014 at the Peg Barnard Invitational hosted by Stanford.
