IRVINE, Calif. --- Second-ranked UCLA built a 10-3 halftime lead and had seven players with at least two goals each in defeating No. 8 UC Irvine, 18-5, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Anteater Aquatics Complex Friday night.
Aimone Barbabino scored a game-high three goals for the Bruins (20-2, 1-1 MPSF).
Freshman Kyle Trush led UCI (11-8, 0-3) with a pair of goals.
A goal by the Anteaters' Jacob Mourer with 5:24 left in the first quarter pulled UCI within 2-1 and Trush's first goal of the game at the 1:19 mark of the opening period drew the 'Eaters within 5-2. The Bruins then scored seven of the next eight goals to take a 12-3 lead on a score by Anthony Daboub with 4:36 remaining in the third quarter.
UCI travels to UC Santa Barbara next Saturday (Nov. 2) for an MPSF game at 12:00 p.m.
