UC Irvine in 3rd Place after 1st Round of Bill Cullum Invitational

 

SIMI VALLEY, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team was third after the first round of the Bill Cullum Invitational at Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley Monday.

The second round was suspended due to darkness and will be completed Tuesday morning prior to the final round.

UCI's Pete Fernandez, Jacob Schulze, Travis Russell and Ryan Knapp each shot 72 and were tied for 18th place after the opening round.  Allan Jun was 33rd after a 73.

Jon Rahm of Arizona State and Kevin Lee from Long Beach State were the individual leaders after shooting rounds of 67.

Ryan O'Connor of UCI, competing as an individual, shot a 76 and is 70th.

The 'Eaters were tied with Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Northridge for  third following the first round at 288.  San Diego led the 20-team tournament at 282 and Arizona State was second at 284.
