Pullman, Wash. -- The UC Irvine women's golf team opened the year with a sixth place finish at the WSU Cougar Cup Tuesday at the Palouse Ridge Golf Course.
The Anteaters had a final round of 305 and ended the tournament with a 54-hole total of 903 (302-296-305). California won the 14-team tournament with a score of 877 (291-290-296). Gonzaga was second (882), host Washington State was third (883), Cal State Fullerton fourth (892) and Idaho placed fifth (902).
UCI was led by freshman Luciane Lee, who finished in 21st place after carding a 226 (76-74-76) in her collegiate debut. Sophomore Michelle Yang finished in a tie for 22nd with a two-day score of 227 (76-75-76), while senior Michelle Park tied for 27th with a total of 228 (80-74-74). Junior Taryn Yee was tied for 30th at 229 (73-74-82) and junior Sara Banke was tied for 35th with a three-round score of 230 (77-74-79).
The Anteaters return to the state of Washington for the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational hosted by the University of Washington Oct. 8-10 at the Sahalee Country Club.
