UC Irvine Finishes 9th at Saint Mary's Invitational

SEASIDE, Calif. --- The UC Irvine men's golf team finished ninth in the Saint Mary's Invitational that concluded Tuesday at the Bayonet and Black Horse Golf Courses in Seaside.

UCI and Kansas State tied for ninth place with 54-hole totals of 903.  The host Gaels won the 15-team tournament with a final total of 860, Kentucky was second at 867 and Oregon third at 874.

Ben Geyer of Saint Mary's was medalist, shooting a 7-under 65 in the final round to finish at 4-under 212.

Junior Travis Russell led UCI with a 28th-place showing of 223 after a final-round 74.  Russell, a graduate of Newport Harbor High, transferred this year from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

Senior Michael Yang finished 32nd at 224 following a 79 Tuesday.  Junior Ryan Knapp (79) was 52nd at 230, freshman Jacob Schulze (75) was 57th at 231 and junior Pete Fernandez (75) placed 61st at 232.

The 'Eaters are back in action Friday and Saturday in the William Tucker Invitational at the UNM Championship Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
